IEEE ITSC 2026: Presenting Your Research, and More Ways to Take Part

The 2026 IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC 2026) was held in Naples, Italy, on September 15–18, 2026. At the heart of a conference like ITSC is the presentation of research papers — the primary way to take part, and the one we most encourage our members to aim for.

Beyond the paper track, there are many additional ways to engage with the community. This year the Chapter Chair took part in several of them, shared here as examples:

• A Late-Breaking Results (LBR) poster — a lower-barrier way to present research when a full paper is not yet ready, and a good first attempt.
• A workshop — the Chair co-organized Workshop 6, “Compiler Safety and Verification for Intelligent Transportation Systems: From C/C++ to Rust,” together with Prof. Ayesha Choudhary (IEEE ITSS Board of Governors). (This was an independently organized workshop, not a Chapter activity.)
• A conference talk in the CAD workshop program.
• The IEEE ITSS Hackathon (Smart Mobility Data Challenge), where the Chair’s team placed 3rd.

The Chapter also hosted a Korea Chapter networking dinner during the conference, bringing together 14 Korean researchers, engineers, and students over dinner in Naples.

IEEE ITSS Korea Chapter Holds Its First 3MT Competition

In August 2026 the IEEE ITSS Korea Chapter held its first Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition — a format in which students and early-career researchers present their research to a general audience in just three minutes.

Six prizes were presented to the top entries, and participation certificates to every entrant. The competition gave the Chapter’s student and early-career members a stage to distill and communicate their work — a skill that carries into every conference presentation and paper.

Maryam Kaveshgar, IEEE ITSS Vice President for Member Activities, sent a congratulatory video for the ceremony — a warm recognition of the Chapter’s first 3MT from the Society’s leadership.

The Chapter congratulates all participants and looks forward to making 3MT a recurring opportunity for its members.

Launching an International Collaboration with the Central Virginia Chapter

The IEEE ITSS Korea Chapter is opening an international collaboration with the IEEE ITSS Central Virginia (CVA) Chapter in the United States. The CVA Chapter is based at the University of Virginia (UVA) and James Madison University (JMU), and is chaired by Dr. B. Brian Park (UVA).

As a first activity, the two chapters are discussing running their own 3MT (Three Minute Thesis) competitions and serving as international judges to cross-judge each other’s video presentations — a valuable chance for our students’ work to reach an overseas review panel.

We plan to broaden the collaboration step by step, including around international academic conferences, and will share updates through our chapter channels.
