Abstract

This session introduces Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), or quantum-safe cryptography, from the perspective of engineering readiness for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). While quantum computing itself lies outside the scope of ITS, its potential to compromise widely used public-key cryptographic schemes raises important concerns for V2X communications, transportation infrastructure, automated driving platforms, and long-lifecycle embedded systems.

The seminar will present key developments in PQC, including emerging NIST standards, the “harvest now, decrypt later” threat, and migration challenges for resource-constrained and safety-critical systems. It will also discuss practical transition strategies such as hybrid cryptography and crypto-agility, highlighting current research and standardization efforts toward quantum-safe transportation systems.

Speaker Bio

Doga Tav is a Principal Architect (Senior Technical Staff Member) at IBM, working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, cloud security, and emerging computing technologies. His work focuses on the design of enterprise-scale architectures that operationalize advanced capabilities such as AI-enabled security systems and quantum-safe computing in large distributed environments. Doga is a multi-term IBM Master Inventor and contributes to patent portfolio governance within IBM’s Security and Privacy technology segment. He also serves as Worldwide Chair of the Hybrid Cloud Security and Compliance Invention Development Team. Doga holds master’s degrees in Computer Science and Business Administration and is an IBM Quantum Ambassador and Qiskit Advocate, regularly presenting on quantum computing and post-quantum cryptography.
